Taylor Maples is an experienced Play by Play Broadcaster with a demonstrated history of excellence.
From an early age, public speaking came naturally. I hosted my first stand-up comedy event before I could even read. I still have the index cards covered in illustrations my dad had drawn to help me remember the punchlines. In first grade I recited the Gettysburg Address at a school assembly, wearing a homemade top hat and construction paper beard. Year after year I found myself speaking in front of large crowds—from high school ‘group presentations’ and Boy Scout flag ceremonies to Patriotic Speech Festivals and more, people have been handing me the microphone for as long as I can remember.
As a former collegiate athlete, Play by Play broadcasting and Public Address announcing have become avenues to stay connected to my passion for high-level competition. I was fortunate to gain valuable experience behind the mic during my undergraduate years working on my Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management. While working on my Master’s, I coached collegiate baseball reigniting my calling to teach the sports I’ve come to love. Together with my Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership, my experiences as an athlete and coach have given me a tremendously unique perspective of sports, and I am forever grateful for this platform to share it. Matthew 4:19 calls us to be fishers of men, but I think ‘fisher of sports fans’ has to be close enough.
My philosophy is simple: provide major-league caliber atmosphere regardless of the venue. Whether I’m belting it out as PA in a gymnasium, or perched high above the venue in a radio/tv booth, my goal is to provide unparalleled expertise at each event. Every sport and every role requires something a little different. Some—more energy. Others—more regality. In both instances I believe it’s important to remember one thing: the fans aren’t here for me. As a Public Address announcer, I enjoy being ‘the booming voice from above,’ highlighting the athletic successes of those on the field while keeping the attention where it belongs. On radio and television calls, I balance engaging, high level analysis of the sport with an educational filter allowing even the most novice of listeners to easily follow along. Before everything else, I view my role as a broadcaster and announcer as one of service. I have so many fond memories of watching sports with my family growing up, and I hope to carry that torch for the next generation of fans.
I have already been blessed beyond my wildest dreams to do the things I’ve done and I look forward to a life lived in sports. Ephesians 3:20 states, “Now, unto Him who is able to do immeasurably more than I could hope for or imagine…,” and my career has certainly been just that. If you have an event or a project that you’d like to take to the next level, give me a call. If you want to know more about my perspective on sports, leadership, or sense of humor— give me a follow on social media. Either way, I would love to connect.
